Sara Keegan, LPC
Therapist

Sara Keegan is a Licensed Professional Counselor, who earned her BA in Psychology and English at Washington and Jefferson College, her MS in Professional Counseling at Carlow University, and currently is a Doctoral Candidate who is ABD (all but dissertation) for the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Duquesne University.

Sara has worked in a variety of treatment settings. She has worked with children, teens, adults, and the geriatric population. Some of her previous experiences include working with children and families in the foster system, individuals diagnosed with cancer or end of life issues as well as both trauma/medical trauma, and with individuals in recovery. Sara currently is working at UPMC as a Behavioral Health Therapist for individuals who have a dual diagnosis (mental health and substance use) as well as a therapist at Alliance Psychological Services.

Sara strives to help individuals explore, make meaning, process, understand, and acknowledge their experiences. Sara focuses on a strength-based approach and uses existentialism as a framework, however, she will cater the modality to the individual. Sara also has prior experience using CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), Narrative Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).

Sara recognizes that life can be challenging. She understands how difficult it can be to take that first step in seeking therapy and wants you to know that she will be there to help you every step of the way. She looks forward to helping you to navigate the challenging and emotionally charged parts of your story. Sara recognizes the importance of safety in the therapeutic relationship and she strives to build that relationship without judgement, pressure, expectation, or timeline. Her goal is to help individuals feel empowered in their lives as well as to help them make decisions that align with their goals. She will help individuals accomplish this through reframing emotional experiences, challenging negative self-talk, and helping to facilitate growth both externally and internally.

Outside of work, Sara enjoys traveling, going to hockey games, attending concerts, listening to music, and spending time with her husband and friends.
